Armed Robbery foiled in Port-Harcourt

POLICE PRESS RELEASE :
FOILED ROBBERY
Rivers State Police Command wishes inform the general public that, on 21/01/2016 at about about 3:25 pm, at a first generation bank situated along Ikwerre road Port Harcourt Suspected armed robbers in a black Toyota Camry laid a siege and attacked a bullion van conveying huge amount of money to the bank.
Swift and brave counter attack by policemen escorting the van forced the assailants to retreat and escape abandoning their operational rifle thus giving the van driver the opportunity to safely drive the van into the bank premises.
A policeman and a bank official sustained gun shot wounds, they were later rush to hospital for treatment. One AK-47 rifle loaded with eighty four rounds of 7.62 live ammunition staked in four magazines were recovered.
Furthermore, let me use this medium to state that this is what actually happened as against what was reported by the Sun newspaper on page 5 of 22/01/2016 issue that the bank official was whisked away in front of police station by the armed robbers. It's also instructive to say that the armed robbers didn't operate "unchallenged", in as much as they jettisoned the operation and abandoned an AK-47 rifle and escaped. To say the least, the report is not the true reflection of what actually transpired.
Lastly, the Command want to further assure the good people of Rivers State for being out there at all times to confront any security challenge, please.
Signed
DSP. Ahmad K. Muhammad,
Police Public Relations Officer,
For: Commissioner of Police,
Rivers State Command
